FAQs About Advanced Fertility Treatments

Advanced fertility treatments are specialised diagnostic and treatment options used when standard fertility care may not be enough. They can include techniques such as ICSI, genetic testing, embryo culture, sperm retrieval, fertility preservation and advanced laboratory assessments, depending on the couple’s diagnosis and treatment needs.

Advanced treatment may be considered for couples with repeated IVF failure, recurrent pregnancy loss, severe male infertility, azoospermia, diminished ovarian reserve, endometriosis, known genetic conditions or complex fertility factors. The choice should follow a complete evaluation rather than being based on one test result alone.

Some advanced techniques can help optimise embryo selection, fertilisation, sperm retrieval or treatment timing in selected patients. However, they do not improve IVF outcomes for everyone. Success still depends on age, ovarian reserve, sperm quality, embryo quality, diagnosis and the reason the technology is being used.

IVF is a fertility treatment in which eggs are retrieved, fertilised in a laboratory and embryos are transferred to the uterus. Advanced treatment for fertility usually refers to additional techniques that complement IVF or address specific problems, such as ICSI, PGT, sperm retrieval or cryopreservation.

No. Some advanced fertility treatments may be recommended before the first IVF cycle when there is a clear indication, such as severe male factor infertility, azoospermia, a known inherited genetic condition, fertility preservation needs or specific reproductive health concerns identified during evaluation.

There is no single treatment that is best for every case of recurrent miscarriage. Evaluation may include assessment of the uterus, chromosomes and other recognised causes. Genetic testing or hysteroscopy may be considered in selected situations, but treatment should always be based on the underlying diagnosis.

Yes. Severe male infertility may sometimes require advanced options such as ICSI, TESA, PESA or micro-TESE, depending on sperm production and whether sperm are present in the ejaculate. Sperm DNA fragmentation testing may also be considered selectively when clinically appropriate.

No. Advanced fertility treatments cannot guarantee pregnancy. They are designed to address specific fertility challenges and improve treatment precision, but outcomes are influenced by age, egg and sperm quality, embryo development, uterine factors, underlying medical conditions and the treatment selected.
